Spine Decompression

Spine Decompression

Spine decompression is a popular, nonsurgical method of treating back pain by easing the pressure on spinal discs and vertebrae. By reducing the pressure in the spinal column, decompression gives an injured disc a chance to heal and can even create a vacuum within the disc to “suck in” the herniations or bulges. It can also lift impinging bone spurs from nerve roots. Usually performed by a chiropractor or other health professional, back decompression can sometimes be achieved at home with simple stretches or even at yoga classes if the sufferer’s symptoms allow.

Some conditions that can be treated with spine decompression include:

  • Herniated disc
  • Bulging disc
  • Degenerated disc
  • Pinched nerve
  • Spinal Stenosis

Other Compressed Spine Treatments

In many cases, these conditions will resolve themselves through the natural healing process. For those who experience symptoms for a longer period of time, spine decompression and other conservative techniques like steroid injections, over the counter or prescription painkillers, chiropractic care, and more may help.

For a small group of sufferers, however, these methods will not be enough, and their doctors will recommend surgery as their last resort treatment. If you fall into this category and have been advised that surgery is your only option, then you may be a candidate for laser spine surgery at Laser Spine Institute (LSI).
