Spinal Decompression

Non surgical spinal decompression treatment can be a safe and effective treatment for herniated or bulging discs if the spinal decompression therapy is performed by a qualified professional. Spinal decompression therapy can rid you of the nagging back pain or neck pain over 15 - 24 non surgical spinal decompression treatment sessions. Because spinal decompression therapy is not for everyone, be sure to discuss your treatment options with your spine doctor or you general practitioner.

The process behind non surgical spinal decompression starts with the patient lying down on a therapeutic table that is hooked up to a computer sending electronic information to stretch and decompress the spinal structure. During the spinal decompression gentle force is applied to your spinal column which is focused to the proper area through the use of a padded harness. During this process the pressure applied decompresses you spine, including the intervertebral discs, and joints. As well as the decompression your spinal muscles are stretched as well. Most of your back pain is produced through these three structures.

A qualified profession will evaluate you before your first session to see if you are a good candidate for non-surgical spinal decompression therapy. This is a touchy subject as there is a fine line between a suitable candidate and a money making excuse. Spinal decompression treatments can be quite successful in the right patient, but have bad results in a patient that requires a different form of therapy. The typical spinal decompression therapy plan will consist of 15 to 24 treatments. If you opt for spinal decompression therapy it is very important that you finish your treatment plan even if you feel improvements early in the therapy.

A session begins with the patient being fitted with a comfortable harness that is designed for optimal spinal decompression. Being fully clothed you are positioned for comfort safety and effectiveness. Your session commences as the computer is programmed with information specific to your spinal decompression treatment plan. During your spinal decompression session you are in complete control and if you become too uncomfortable you can shut down the treatment at any time.

The patient experiences multiple cycles of treatment in each spinal decompression therapy session. The cycles take between two and three minutes each and the equipment is designed so that tension can be precisely applied along the axis of your spinal cord. The pressure applied during your spinal decompression session is what decompresses the intervertebral discs. A technician monitors the computer during the process even though it is fully automated through the use of this computer.

The pressure causing the pain in the area of your back that is being affected by the spinal decompression therapy will often have some form of relief during this treatment cycle. It is important to understand that when a treatment plan is created it should be followed to the end to allow for maximum healing to the injured disc. Pain relief through spinal decompression happens as the body responds to the oxygen, blood, and nutrients that are promoting the body’s natural healing process.
