Spinal Decompression
Spinal Decompression Through Gentle, Effective Endoscopy: Laser Spine Surgery
There are a number of back conditions that call for surgical spinal decompression when more conservative treatments like physical therapy, non-invasive decompression, and anti-inflammatory medicines haven’t reduced pain. These include sciatica, degenerative disc, and herniated, bulging and ruptured disc syndromes. In all of these scenarios, discs or other tissue pinch nerves near the spine, causing inflammation and discomfort. Surgical spinal decompression either removes that material or repositions it back to its original location, relieving pressure on the nerve. This is accomplished with a number of different procedures used for specific conditions. Traditionally, these procedures involve hospitalization, general anesthesia, and large incisions through skin, muscle and sometimes bone. Many surgeons still perform spinal decompression in this manner despite the fact that it comes with many side effects and risks like a four percent chance of infection and potential for a return to back pain.
