After Spinal Decompression LSI Might be the Best Choice for You

After Spinal Decompression LSI Might be the Best Choice for You

While spinal decompression is a successful treatment for some back pain sufferers, there’s a reason it may not help many who use it: it’s not the proper treatment for their condition. Spinal decompression is most successful when treating pain associated with bulging or herniated discs. If you have other back problems, this treatment may not alleviate your pain. Misdiagnosis contributes to the over-prescription of spinal decompression, and so does greed. The procedure takes 15 to 24 treatments and it can be very lucrative for doctors, which also contributes to inappropriate prescription of spinal decompression.

To ensure that you are a true candidate for this treatment, choose a doctor you trust, and be an active participant in your care by asking questions about how this procedure will minimize or eliminate your pain. However, if you’ve already undergone spinal decompression treatments with little to no success, or you discover that you aren’t a candidate for it, there is an alternative you should consider: outpatient endoscopic treatment at Laser Spine Institute.

Here’s how it works:

  • We prepare you for surgery at one of our surgical offices using a local anesthesia and deep IV sedation that keeps you comfortable during surgery, but allows you to communicate with the doctor.
  • The doctor makes a small incision in your back, and uses a series of nesting tubes to gradually push muscles aside and create access to the surgical site.
  • A laser, along with other surgical instruments, is used to remove a portion of the bulging or herniated disc that is pressing on nerves and causing you pain.
  • After the 60- to 90-minute surgery, your incision is closed and you are allowed to leave the facility to recuperate in your hotel room following a short recovery at LSI.
  • In the two days following surgery, LSI staff creates and administers a personalized physical therapy plan designed for you.
  • On day five your incision site is checked and you’re permanently discharged from the facility.

This treatment has been highly successful in helping patients, some of whom have even experienced relief before the small surgical incision is closed. With spinal decompression, on the other hand, it could take many weeks to feel relief.

If you’d like more information on our alternatives to spinal decompression, contact us today.  We’ll be happy to review you’re MRI or CT scan for free to determine if you’re a good candidate for our procedure.
