Spinal Decompression Candidates May Also Benefit from Treatment at Laser Spine Institute

Spinal decompression can be a valuable tool for those suffering with bulging or herniated discs and other back problems. This non-surgical method works by using gentle force to redistribute stress on the spine. The process reduces or eliminates pressure on the affected disc that’s pinching a nerve and causing you pain. This treatment can be tremendously effective in reducing back pain and it comes with the added benefit of being non-invasive.

The entire procedure is performed using a padded harness that’s worn over the patient’s clothing. However, there are several issues that need to be addressed before a back pain sufferer opts for this procedure.  First and foremost you must be sure a proper diagnosis has been given. Spinal decompression can only be used to treat certain conditions, so if your back pain stems from another problem—or you have several conditions including some that can’t be treated with spinal decompression—you should ask your doctor about treatments that might be more effective. Another important question to ask: “Is spinal decompression truly the optimal solution for the problem?” The procedure is performed over 15 to 24 sessions and can be extremely lucrative for physicians, so occasionally it is over-prescribed.  If you find that you are not a candidate for spinal decompression, there is another alternative for reducing your back pain: laser spine surgery at LSI.

It’s more beneficial than spinal decompression because:

  • It requires less maintenance. Spinal decompression patients may have to undergo repeated adjustments to maintain pain relief, but LSI patients normally experience lasting pain relief with little to no maintenance.
  • It provides total back care. Many back pain sufferers have more than one condition causing their pain, and laser spine surgery can be used to treat many problems. Spinal decompression may not be the optimal treatment for some back and spine conditions.
  • It’s more convenient. Laser spine treatment takes five days from pre-operative screenings to post-operative care, with the possibility of minimal follow-up visits to a doctor. Spinal decompression can take up to eight weeks over the course of 24 treatments.

If laser-assisted spine surgery at LSI sounds like a viable alternative to spinal decompression for you, contact us today. We’ll review your CT scan or MRI for free to determine if you are a good candidate for our services.
